Sphere: The sphere (SPH) on your prescription indicates the lens power you need to see clearly. A minus (-) symbol next to this number means you're nearsighted, while a plus (+) symbol indicates farsightedness.

Cylinder: The cylinder (CYL) number indicates the lens power needed to correct astigmatism. If this column is blank, you may not have astigmatism correction in your prescription.

Axis: An axis value is included when cylinder correction is prescribed. It indicates the orientation of the astigmatism correction in the lens.

Pupillary distance (PD) measures the distance between the centers of your pupils and is used to position prescription lenses accurately within the frame. Your optician will usually measure your PD.
